Laura is passionate about history and culture of Middle Eastern dance. Her research focuses of gender, post-colonialism, history, oral history, anthropology of performance and choreographic practices. Her dissertation ‘Dancing in the Fringe: Connections Forming An Evening of Experimental Middle Eastern Dance’ analyses discursive practices of genres and types of relationships choreographers produce between ‘traditional’ and ‘experimental’ Middle Eastern dance.
Laura has presented at international conferences including, Congress on Research and Dance (CORD), Society for Dance History Scholars (SDHS), Oral History Association, International Belly Dance Conference of Canada, International Conference on Middle Eastern Dance and Bold Festival.
