Dr Laura Osweiler, also known as Amara Dances, is an internationally acclaimed Belly Dancer & Middle Eastern artist. Her multifaceted career encompasses roles as a performer, teacher, choreographer, producer and scholar.
Renowned for her captivating and dynamic Classic American belly dance style, Amara has dazzled audiences worldwide. For over 25 years, she has been a leading innovator in Contemporary, theatrical and experimental Middle Eastern dance.
As an instructor, Amara is known for her endless patience and personalised attention. She teaches online Belly Dance & Bellates Fitness classes from her base in Sydney, Australia, making her expertise accessible to students worldwide.
In addition to her teaching and performance, Amara produces internationally recognised productions that nurture and sustain dance communities.
A dedicated scholar, her research explores the intersections of movement, health, culture, and history. Amara is also a passionate advocate for arts and disability, striving to create greater equity, representation and accessibility.


Amara has been showcased on television shows including ‘We are Austin’ (2010, 2016, 2017, 2020), ‘7Plus Morning Show’ (Sydney 2019), ‘Today’ (Sydney 2019) & ‘BDTV’ (Los Angeles 2004). Her work has been featured by Eastside Radio (2023), Dance Informa (2022), Multicultural NSW (2020) and Australia Council for the Arts. She has graced the covers of ‘The Argonaut’ (LA 2004) and ‘Jareeda’ (USA 2006).
The International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance (IAMED) recognised her as a Star of Belly Dance and LARaqs.com honoured her as Instructor of the Month (October 2008).
